Mount Mulligan is situated right in the heart of Queensland’s magnificent, unspoilt outback and Mt Mulligan Lodge is the ideal destination for luxury getaways in this unique part of Australia. If you’re looking to get away from it all but want to do it in style and have a bit of outback adventure along the way, then you’ll need to plan your Mount Mulligan escape.
Enjoy daily outback experiences: Have an ATV adventure, go on a 4WD safari to Tyrconnell Gold Mine, explore the historic Mount Mulligan township and coal mine, watch the sunset with a cool drink in your hand, do some stargazing… These are just some of the amazing activities at Mt Mulligan Lodge. The choice is all yours!
Mt Mulligan Lodge offers light, contemporary and daily changing menus that showcase a bounty of locally sourced, caught and freshly-grown seasonal fare. The menu puts a flavoursome twist on outback living, featuring a tasting plate of kangaroo tataki, miso cream, tea-soaked egg, wasabi granola and hearty mains such as grass-fed Bushy Creek beef, charred peppers, manzanilla olive, lemon myrtle or smoked chimichurri.
Each meal will inspire and delight you with tales of local provenance.
The cellar has been crafted to ensure harmony between cuisine, climate and environment featuring iconic and boutique wines from Australia’s renowned wine regions.
The lodge accommodates just 28 guests in spacious guest retreats that complement the landscape and offer a luxurious and charming take on pastoral living. Each retreat is a sanctuary overlooking a eucalyptus-fringed weir and views of the ever-changing moods of Mount Mulligan.
The spacious guest quarters are contemporary and luxurious, yet retain a raw external charm with their spotted gum timber cladding, pitched roofs and deep verandahs. Inside, the earthy tones of the plush linen, sisal rugs and lavish leather furniture give a rich sense of place, mirroring the hues found in the landscape outside. With its dark grey stone tiles and bronze fittings, the ensuite bathroom is both luxurious and calming. Slide open the glass and timber doors onto your private deck to run a deep outdoor bath and relax, surrounded by nature and uninterrupted views of the Northern Queensland outback.
If you’re tempted to delve further into the area’s history, we suggest visiting the heritage-listed Tyrconnell Goldmine, which was discovered in 1876 by James Mulligan. Conveniently located a short drive from the lodge, this site harks back to Australia’s Gold Rush era, with its imposing quartz gold crusher, claimed to be the oldest in the country, and its intricate machinery. Get an inside glimpse into the miner’s cottage, complete with family possessions, monochrome photographs and well-preserved artefacts.
